Default Fantasy Formula 1 (2010)

It's a new season and there's a few new teams and drivers to contend with as well as a new scoring system.

Remember, all you have to do is pick one team and one driver from each group from the budget available. All entries along with your team name need to be in by 0700 (GMT) on Friday March 12th 2010.

You can copy and Paste this and then fill it in:

Code:
Forum Username:
Team Name: Group A Driver: Group B Driver: Group C Driver: Group D Driver: Group A Team: Group B Team: Group C Team: Total Price:

The Drivers and teams have all been put in Groups and you have to pick 1 driver from EACH group and 1 team from EACH group. That should give you 4 drivers and 3 teams.

Each driver/team has a price and you have a budget of 60m.

Points can be scored through finishing in the Top 10, securing Pole Position, getting the fastest Lap and finishing in a higher position than you qualified.

Points can be lost by retiring and finishing in a lower position than you qualified.

Team Captain - You can also assign one of your drivers as Team Captain, which means he will have his points doubled each week. This would be great if he scores lots of points but not so good if he retires in the first few laps. Team Captains can be changed for each race but if you feel like you don't want to nominate a captain, you don't have to. The deadline for picking your team captain is at the start of qualifying of each race. If there is no change of captain, you keep the same captain as the previous week (or no captain if you didn't previously pick one)

How to score/lose Points with your Driver:

1st=50, 2nd=40, 3rd=30, 4th=20, 5th=16, 6th=12, 7th=10, 8th=6, 9th=4, 10th=2.
Pole Position =10 Fastest Lap = 6
For every place he finished higher than he qualified = 2
For every place he finished lower than he qualified = -2
Retiring within 25% of the race = -40*
Retiring within 50% of the race = -20
Retiring after 50% of the race = -8
DSQ = -40

*Any car that can't take the grid for whatever reason will be deemed to have retired within 25% of the race.

Teams score points in the same way except for the finishing higher/lower points.

Find the pricing a bit strange Rik. Alonso the most expensive???? He's a great previous world champion but just because he's in a Ferrari should he be 6m more than Schumi in the current world champ constructors car?

But it could make things a little interesting. Strongest teams and drivers from last year worth less. Strange to me but should make things interesting.

Will have my team in as normal at 06.59 on the 12th March. You can count me in.

To be honest, I thought there were a few slightly strange things there too but the prices are based on the odds that some major bookies are giving for the individual and constructors titles. I was tempted to change it myself but the bookies aren't often wrong and I guess it's the same for everyone

Edited to add my team

Not quite the same - you chose a driver named Liuzzi and Lebn8r chose someone called Luizzi.

True Dat!!!

Edited to add I'm looking into the possibility of introducing a new rule, which might make things more competitive for those taking an active interest in the thread and allow identical teams to be "tweaked" to score differently.

Just need to check the last few years scoring to make sure it can't be abused. Will let you all know, sometime today.

Don't like it and personaly I think you don't need it. It does not happen in the sport.

One of the reasons I personaly like this game is that you do not need to do anything durring the season. Having to think about changing your captain...don't know...from my point of view...one of the reasons I stopped fantasy football as I could not look at it every week.

It also makes it a true way to see if your team is truly better than the rest. Changing the captain each week to gain extra points takes the exitment out of it. Well from my point of view.

The only thing that this game needs is people to post more durring the season.

At the same time, it makes it a bit more exciting imo if you have 2 exact teams because one can still beat the other. It's pretty dull knowing that however good or bad you do, you're never going to be an outright winner.

It also promotes more posts which equals more conversation and a livlier thread. In my opinion, although they'll still be a healthy slice of luck needed, it also makes a more worthy winner if someone actually bothers to check circuits where certain manufactors succeed or struggle and pick their captain accordingly. There are only a couple of races that follow in consecutive weeks, which means most races are seperated between 2-3 weeks, which to be honest, is more than enough time to log in and pick a different captain (and you don't even need to do that if you want to keep the same).

If you look at past competitions (and not just F1), there have been people that have picked a team and then vanished a little way into the season. I still have to calculate their stats and points but from my point of view, I feel that someone who's still putting a bit of effort into the forum and particularly into the relevent competition; is a more worthy winner than someone who picked a team in Feb/March and then dissapeared. It's not like the real F1 team managers retire for the season, once they picked their line-up, so imo there's no reason why it should be like that here either.

Besides, the new "rule" is optional. You could say it's a bit like KERS last year. It can be an advantage or a disadvantage. Pick the race winner as your captain and you're looking at a big pile of points but if your captain gets involved in a crash with less than 25% of the race gone, that's a huge loss too.
