Brais Val and Guillermo Bueno will start with Juvenil A. Seems that Pedro Martelo, former Portugal U20 striker, will not return. Now that Fran and Valeron are fully in control, I'd expect some moves over the next few weeks.

A video of Galicia's Under 14 and 16 teams in March. Still very far from professional football but a nice look of what is in Galicia and in Abegondo. Unfortunately the best players on both teams were from Celta (U14 Martinez and Conde and U16 Stefan, Robert Carril and Alex Comparada all look very good)

Depor's U16 players who will start with Juvenil B this year are: GK Hugo Lemos, MID Ruben Lopez and David Gomez W Christian Canales and David Mella (Doing preseason with Juvenil A and a Spain U15 player) and ST Martin Ochoa. Alejandro Gonzalez and Seydiba Mendes were also called up earlier in the year for the U16s

Depor's U14 players will probably start this year with San Tirso (Depor's "B" team that plays in the same division as Deportivo's Cadete A)

They were Juan Barros, Dani Estevez, Jorge Garcia, Lucas Taibo, and Zoe Ceisas. To me the best player of this group was DEF Lucas Taibo.

Over the break with not a lot going on and Fran coming in to lead with the academy I got very interested in Depor's base. A few years ago, I had the chance to visit Abegondo for a week and see how things were done inside the club, specifically watching the Infantil B (13 years old). Now more than ever we need to really look at the younger categories to come up with talent and I'll be posting once a month on what is going on with the academy system and how it works.

While the first team is the most important thing this year, it is never too early to start thinking about the future and seeing what players are developing. Over the past few years we've had players like Angeliño (City), Hugo Novoa (RB Leipizig), Alvaro (Madrid and now Man U), Sergio (Atletico) leave Abegondo for bigger clubs. I know Hugo Novoa left RB Leipzig left for 120.000 euros a year in wages, something not even out first team players will have now. Hopefully we'll be able to highlight some breakthrough players as well as players who are being recognized with the Spain youth teams and Galicia youth teams.

How does the academy work in 20/21?

Similar to the professional level there is different categories with promotion/relegation. The top is Division de Honor, which is the best teams of Galicia. At the Juvenil level, the Division de Honor group also includes Asturias (Sporting, Racing Santander, and Real Oviedo). We also have a partnership with San Tirso who also plays in the Division de Honor. The younger players will go to San Tirso and play in the same league as the year above them. Here is an example of the a path a top player would follow.

Juvenil A U19( Division de Honor)-Took 3rd way behind Celta and Sporting)
Juvenil B U17 (Liga Nacional -2nd behind Celta)
Cadete A U16 (Division de Honor-1st and finished with 23 wins and 0 losses)
San Tirso Cadete U15 (Division de Honor-Finished 5th)
Infantil A U14 (Liga Gallega- Finished T-1st with Celta)
San Tirso Infantil U13 (Liga Gallega-Finished 15th)

Alevin U12, Benjamin U10, and Pre-Benjamin U8 all play in the local Coruña leagues but because of the first team, they will play in big tournaments throughout Spain. The Alevin A group did very well in La Liga Promises tournament a few years ago against the biggest teams in Spain and one player was named Player of the Tournament (Dani Estevez) who should be with San Tirso Cadete this year.

Every step has a bigger "league" with teams expanding from just Coruña to the North of Galicia to all of Galicia and eventually Galicia and Asturias at Juvenil A before entering the "professional" stage. The jump between Juvenil A and Fabril can sometimes be big which is why a few years ago when Fabril was in Segunda B (how the times have changed), Laracha became Depor C so players could play in Tercera before moving up to Fabril. An example of a player "not being ready" after Juvenil A is Adri Castro who was loaned to Ourense CF in Tercera and almost got them promoted. He will now, most likely, be with Depor's first team.

Most players leave between Cadete and Juvenil. Our Juvenil team struggled this year (partly because of the loss of 2-3 very good players and the inability to replace them) and can only offer a Division de Honor league. Other teams may offer wages, schooling paid for, and the newest thing which is the UEFA Youth League. We may be playing against Conxo Santiago on Saturday while a UEFA Youth League team could be playing PSG or Juventus. The biggest thing Fran will have to do is bridge the gap between a Cadete A team who did not lose and a Juvenil A team who was well behind the top of the league.

Trilli starting at CB at only 17 is a highlight. With Mujaid, JuanRo and Trilli, that is 3 CB's that Abegondo has produced with youth national team players

Was able to watch today's 1st half vs Racing Villalbes. Unfortunately unlike last year with Gandoy and Valin, there doesn't seem to be anyone that will be able to make the jump to the first team over the next few months (Adri Castro is playing, Juan Rodriguez is not)
