Default Modern Football Is Rubbish

I thought I'd post this here to see what you all think.

Many fans of Spanish football teams have been unhappy this year due to television channels changing the times of games and or scheduling them at times to fit their TV scheduling.

Over the past 2 seasons the Riazor Blues have protested about this under the banner 'I Hate Modern Football'

This weekend The Biris Norte, The Sevilla fans (and friends of Riazor Blues) held a protest due to their game being rescheduled so the post Barca-Madrid game press conference could be shown on TV. The Sevilla game ended at 00.30 in the night.

Fed up of having their 'balls busted' by constant match rescheduling the demonstrated in a unique and great way. Here it is.

Brilliant!
To end a game at 00:30 is a disgrace to the fans, not to mention the distribution of the TV income.
Great to see someone protesting like this.

personally i adore games ending at 00:30, Spanish time. But i hate games at noon or afternoons, or on days like Monday.
A bit traditional i am in this. Weekends and evenings/nights = good

Finishing late isnt a problem for some people but how can you take kids to a game so late. And as you have noticed Madr*d and Barca get the primetime slots. This is something that will effect us if we get promoted. Also, the distribution of TV wealth is a disgrace. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Im more for wealth being distributed due to how you finish in the league.

Modern football is all about money. TV has had a huge part to play in this aswell as the clubs. The only league I respect is the bundesliga with full stadiums, standing sections creating great atmosphere, reasonable ticket prices and financial sustainability. Most other leagues either have terrible atmospheres, empty stands, ridiculous ticket prices or many of their clubs are in financial ruin.

What about France, Scott?

In Italy the stadiums are not always full, because they are huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge. Napoli's average 40,000 seems worse out in the brutal huge San Paolo, than Werder's in the tiny Weser, or Chelsea in Stamford. But that is just optical, and you cannot compare the atmosphere. Forza huge stadiums! Against stadium-minimalising! Let people in!

It's all about money, true. Modern football is not about parity, the rules create a "success to the successful" model. The sport that best creates a model of parity is American Football, which has a strong salary cap and a lottery draft model. There are a few teams which are consistently more successful than others, but that generally tends to happen because those teams are better run. It's not because the Green Bay Packers or New England Patriots or San Francisco 49ers can pay more than anyone for the best players.

Really, it's a socialistic, revenue-sharing model that encourages competition. It's kind of funny that such a model is accepted in America and doesn't seem to be possible in Europe or the rest of the world.

Was wondering what happened during Sevilla v Levante. Commentators weren't even aware.

Definitely agree with everything - it's an awful tendency.

the more or less same model does not work too well in NBA or in NHL, where 2 of 3 teams are in minus, and there are teams with 20 championship and quite a few without any...

To Filip: the TV income is not divided according to performance in Spain. While Madrid has less than 3 times more points than Puta Zara or Puta Gijon, it takes away 8 times more TV money. This is not fair...

Just a suggestion - should this not be part of the "Economics of Football thread?" http://www.deportivo-la-coruna.com/f...ead.php?t=7399

no, Kevin, because there are/can be non-economical things, that we dislike in modern football...

Like players are slaves, who are sold and bought as a product, and it is not followable in which season who plays for your team and for the eternal enemy.
There is no loyality.

Then stupid presidents, who are changing coaches so often as the under-wear (Palermo).

Chris' customer statement: clubs needs sitting customers and not commitmented supporters... The poor are out of the stadium because of high ticket prices...

4 defenders and 0-1 forward no attacking, but waiting football... no play, but war. (in Hun they chant as a final support, when losing: FIGHT! jeeeeeeez) for me the physical side of the sport is too much, while the technical side is very much wasted

players going to celebrate with the fans getting yellow-carded, fireworks getting fined, banners are forbidden, fans are not allowed to travel in away games (in some cases), etc...

Lots of non-economical issues that makes modern football losing spirit.

exactly, but that's not just football, that's about everything! These times, governement has 1000 rules for every step you make, and what you can(not) do.
That's why i hate EU Brussels Dictature, who can't do any better than just make stupid rules what they think other countries need, without having a clue.
Of course local governements aren't one bit better. But i'm talking besides the point already.

I actually forgot what i wanted to write in the first place
